Meizu M1 Note 2 vs Redmi Note 4G, Which one is more value for money and has more powerful performance?

The Redmi Note from Xiaomi has been quite popular for one time. After that, there appeared a number of competitors the mid-range market, including the Golden Warrior series from Lenovo, the Play series from Huawei, the Dazen series from Coolpad and so on. They all have great competitiveness on price with the Redmi Note. But on the whole performance, they are all refered to be less powerful than the Redmi Note 4G. When Meizu M1 Note just released its first generation product, although the price began from 999 Yuan, it was a great rival to Redmi Note 4G. However, the higher price and mild performance make it just to the Redmi Note 4G released long before. Now, Meizu once again released the Meizu M1 Note 2 for just 799 Yuan. It is obvious that the phone is coming at Redmi Note 4G.

Today, most mid-range smartphones’ appearance design is quite exquisite and excellent. It is difficult to find some flaws, because users are always demanding. So even the cheap devices put a lot of efforts on design. But most of them still use plastic material. So good-looking or not is greatly related to the lately design idea of the brand. We can see it directly from the Meizu M1 Note and Redmi Note. Let’s get to know their basic specs at first. Meizu M1 Note 2 has 5.5 inch 1080p screen with 401 PPI, runs 1.3GHz MT6753 64bit octa core processor with 2GB RAM+16GB ROM internal storage, offers 3100mAh battery and 5.0MP front camera+13.0MP rear camera. The system is Flyme 4.5 based on Android 5.0 OS. While Redmi Note 4G adopts 5.5 inch 720p screen, applies Snapdragon 410 quad core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, provides 2GB RAM+16GB ROM memory, packs 5.0MP front camera+13.0MP rear camera and a 3100mAh battery. If Meizu M1 Note 2 did not adopt ‘mBack’, you may think the Meizu in the picture is the previsou Meizu M1 Note. It is exactly like that. Meizu M1 Note has not changed a lot on appearance. But the changes on details do help a lot. The curve of the back is more sharp and the edges are on the same horizontal line of the screen. The unique mBack is quite impressive and the Grey color gives out very intense metal texture.

Although Redmi Note is with very square appearance and its aspect ratio is insignificant, the flaws all covered since the screen material is toughened glass which can effectively protect the screen from damages and reduce the risk of being cracked.

Meizu M1 Note 2’s ‘mBack’ changed the previous back operation. Now it is soft touch to back to the last step, press to back to the Home page. The physical button greatly improved the texture of Meizu M1 Note 2. While Redmi Note still has those touch buttons.

The layout of thier bottoms are pretty similar. The unibody design brings Meizu M1 Note 2 a very good look. Redmi Note did not put the speaker on the bottom, because it would reduce the video quality when the phone is lying down on the table.

Since both of them are 5.5 inch large screen phone, their Power buttons are under the Volume button. As for the feeling on the button, Meizu M1 Note 2’s physical button is with great mechanical sensitivity. And the key regulation is also better.

We will directly skip the comparison between Redmi Note’s 1280×720 pixels screen and Meizu M1 Note 2’s 1920×1080 pixels screen. Because the difference between them is obvious and easy to feel, not like the transition from 1080p to 2K level which is subtle. So we will move to the more concerned issue, battery life.

Meizu M1 Note 2 vs Redmi Note 4G

The processor of Redmi Note is from Qualcomm and Meizu M1 Note is from MTK. But they are both based on A53, so there is actually no essential difference. Meizu M1 Note 2’s processing spped is higher and it is also octa core processor, so on performance, Meizu M1 Note 2 is more powerful.

The battery life test of the phones began at 11:10 AM under full battery, screen adaptive brightness, medium volume and WiFi connection. After played a whole online movie, the battery of Redmi Note drains faster than Meizu M1 Note 2.

After a whole movie, the temperature of Meizu M1 Note 2 is higher than Redmi Note.

After around 40 minutes’ non-stop game playing, Meizu M1 Note 2’s battery drains faster this time.

17 18

The result of tempreture test is the same as before. Although their temperatures goes up both, Meizu M1 Note 2’s is still higher than Redmi Note.

From the result of the test, although Meizu M1 Note 2’s hardware performance is more outstanding, the tempreture and battery life of Redmi Note is better. After 2 hours’ non-stop using, both phones need to be charged one time per day if you use it constantly. While for normal users, they can ensure a whole day’s battery life.

Except for the different LED Flash, Meizu M1 Note 2 and Redmi Note have the same camera specs, 5.0MP front camera+13.0MP rear camera with f/2.2. Would their actual imaging effects be same as well?

First let’s look at the resolution, after the details of Meizu M1 Note 2 and Redmi Note got enlarged to 300%, their edges all became blur and with slight sawtooth. On color reproduction, Redmi Note is closer to the real scene and the ability of suppressing the highlight from the side is also stronger than Meizu M1 Note 2.

Under front-lighting, their focus speed and accuracy are almost the same. Although Redmi Note’s color is stronger, its edge sharpness and layering are worse than Meizu M1 Note 2.

23 24

Micro distance photograph test. The processing on details of Meizu M1 Note 2 is maturer than Redmi Note. Since both of them used f/2.2 aperture, the bokeh is just so so.

25 26

Night shot test. Both phones are quite excellent on the color temperature contol of light and the glare control, and noise control is also pretty excellent. But there is obvious red noise at the bottom right corner. What worth mentioning is that, when they shot under low light, the focus speed is declined and sometimes they are even not able to focus.

27 28

Because Meizu M1 Note 2 uses dual color tone LED Flash, we added a test on the LED Flash. The color performance of Redmi Note with single LED Flash is not as natural and soft as Meizu M1 Note 2. And the highlight even covers all the details. But during the test, When with the LED Flash intervention, Redmi Note’s focus speed is much faster than Meizu M1 Note 2. While Meizu M1 Note 2 takes relatively longer time, if your hand shakes badly, the pictures may blur easily.

If you think the price drop of Meizu M1 Note 2 compared to the last generation is pretty attractive, you may not realize that its hardware configuration is actually less powerful. But at the time being, Meizu M1 Note 2 is still the most competitive product at the price range. Facing the 899 Yuan Redmi Note 4G, it is quite confident. Meizu M1 Note 2 and Redmi Note 4G are quite different on hardware, mainly on the screen and processor. But Redmi Note’s battery life is a little better than Meizu M1 Note 2. If you only care about battery life, Redmi Note 4G is a nice choice. While if you care more about the design and performance, Meizu M1 Note 2 is definitely the winner.
