Born to be rivals! The appearance battle between Smartisan U1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 2: which one is more beautiful and intriguing

Last month, the Smartisan that claimed never release mid-range smartphone launched a 899 Yuan smartphont on to the entry-level market, Smartisan U1. The phone has made a stir due to its excellent Smartisan OS and striking appearance design. While on price, this one is very close to the new Xiaomi phone Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, which makes people think it is coming directly at Xiaomi Redmi 2. Today, we will see their appearance comparison.

On the screen, Smartisan U1 and Redmi Note 2 look pretty similar. But the inside material is very different. Seemingly, they both use 5.5 inch 1080p screen. Smartisan U1’s screen is come from SHARP and AUO, while Redmi Note 2’s screen is from Tianma. As for display effect, there exist difference if observe carefully.

Smartisan U1 and Redmi Note 2 both have a 5.0MP front-facing camera with F/2.2 aperture. The design of earpiece is different. The light/distance sensor and earpiece of U1 are designed together as one, making the phone’s appearance more simple. Redmi Note 2’s sensors are hided on the right of the earpiece.

As for the buttons, Smartisan U1 no longer uses physical buttons, but touch buttons like Redmi Note 2. While there is only light leakage hole on the buttons, more specific signs to explain the functions of the buttons. From the features of the phones’ back covers, we can see the patterns and function area of their back covers are quite different. The speaker of Redmi Note 2 is at the lower part of the back, while the speaker of U1 is at the phone’s bottom.

Smartisan U1 uses white plastic frame and Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 adopts unibody design. The power button of Smartisan U1 is at the top and the earphone jack is at the left of the top. At the top of Redmi Note 2, the IR Blaster is at the right and the earphone jack is at the left as well.

In addition to the symmetrical design of the speaker and MIC, the USB port of Smartisan U1 is in the middle at the bottom. While Redmi Note 2 puts its USB port at the left and there is de-noising mic next to it.

Smartisan U1 adopts the dual button design of T1, button at both the left and right side, more convenient for user who have different using habits for right or left hand. While Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 put its power button and volume button both at the right.

The advantage of U1’s dual side button is it makes the phone looks more symmetrical and harmonious. While the disadvantage of it is it has to put the power button at the top. For a 5.5 inch smartphone, power button at the top is a little bit inconvenient for operation.

At length, let see the configuration. On processor, Smartisan U1 chooses Snapdragon 615 and Redmi Note 2 uses MT6795. MT6795 is usually used on mid/high end smartphones, it has better performance than the Snapdragon 615. They both offer 2GB RAM+16/32GB ROM storage. The battery capacity of Redmi Note is 3060mAh, 170mAh more than U1.

Generally speaking, if you care much about the phone’s performance, it is right to choose Redmi Note 2. While if you don’t care that much about perfomance, Smartisan U1 is a nice choise. Because for daily use, both phones will be very excellent and smooth.
