MIUI 7 vs Flyme 5: Which customized OS are you leaning toward?
MIUI and Flyme, the 2 famous Chinese OS that born to be rivals, updated to MIUI 7 and Flyme 5 this year respectively. Due to their outstanding performance, the exquisite UI and excessively improved user experience make the battle between them on the ROM market more fierce and eye-catching. Adopting the idea of ‘Fast, Power-saving, Designed for you’, MIUI 7 showed up at the launch event in this August, pushed the envelop of the performance of Xiaomi phones. However, due to the dispute on Android versions, people were questioned that if MIUI 7 just changed the skin of the system. While the Flyme 5 powered by Android 5.1 bodly use colors to completely change Flyme 4, optimizing the system from the base. On the whole, both of them have features of their own and the discussion on them will be endless. Now, let’s take a look at them and find out their difference from the point view of appreciation.

1. LockScreen Interface
Both of the interfaces are quite simple. Flyme 5 discarded the motion of swipping up. Swipping left to launch the camera is working on both.
2. Homepage and Icon arranging function
MIUI 7’s Homepage basically adopted the style of MIUI 6, but the icons are more round and the colors are maturer. Flyme 5 changed the layout of Flyme, arranging the icons into 5 lines, making the screen to load more contents to more largely make use of the space of large screen smartphone. MIUI 7 has always kept the round-corner rectangle APP icon to remain the complete style of the Homepage. While Flyme’s icons are disorderly and uneven, no sense of unity at all.
The Icon arranging functions of MIUI 7 and Flyme 5 are different, yet both easy to learn and operate. In comparison, Flyme’s arraging icons in mass is the function which as only increased on Flyme. While, MIUI 6 has already supported this effective way to arrange the Homepage.
3. Notification Center
Unlike the layout of the Homepage, Flyme 5’s Notification Center is simply made into 4 lines and the Shortcut switchs decreased from 15 to 12. Click the setting icon in the upper-right corner to directly enter the Setting inerface. MIUI 7 still splits the Notification Center and Shortcut switch, long press the Shortcut switch to enter detailed Setting interface.
4. Setting Interface
MIUI’s setting interface changed from 3 parts of screen in to 2 parts after simplified. Although it still looks very disordered, the colorful icons make it easier to recognized. Flyme 5 assorted the items thoroughly : ‘WIFI and Network’, ‘Reminder and Notification’, ‘System’, ‘Account’ and ‘Device’. On the processing of color, Flyme 5 highlights functionality. In order not to let the bright colors to distract users, it makes the praticle tools White or Grey, including File management, Setting, Email and so on.
5. Multi-tasking Interface
You can launch the multi-tasking interface of MIUI 7 by clicking on the Menu button, comparing with Flyme 5, it is simpler and more convenient. The most effective way to launch Multi-tasking interface of Flyme 5 is to swipe up. On the other hand, it redesigned the Multi-tasking interface, using the more visually oriented Card presentation, following the original Android design. Flyme 5 also increased the item of ‘Close all’. But the item is at the top, not good for one-handed operation.
6. Split Screen Mode
What surprising is Flyme 5 increased a very cool function, ‘Split Screen Mode’. It allows you to watch video and chat on wechat at the same time. Anyways, you can do more than one thing over your phone with this mode.
