The most expensive smartphones today are undoubtedly made by Apple and Samsung. If you want something cheaper, there are some high-end Chinese flagship smartphones for you to choose. While, if you want a mid- range device, there are plenty choices. Today, we will walk you through a comparison between 2 hot mid- range smartphones, Meizu Metal and OnePlus X.Although they don’t actually offer same price tag, they belong to the same range and their hardware configurations are similar. So, let’s make a simple contrast.

Firstly, taking a glance at their specs. Meizu Metal features a 5.5 inch Full HD screen, Helio X10 Octa core processor with 2GB RAM+16GB ROM. It packs a 5.0MP front camera+13.0MP rear camera, supports mTouch 2.1 and has a 3140mAh battery. Currently, Meizu Metal is available at $209.99 from Vifocal. As for One Plus X, the handset takes a 5.0 inch 1080p display, inbuilt with 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 Quad core processor, coupled with 3GB RAM+16GB ROM. It offers 8.0MP front camera, 13.0MP rear camera and 2525mAh battery. OnePlus X is costing $279.99.

Although they have different color, both of their white front panel that look very clean. Meizu Metal adopts the classic design idea of Meizu family, round corners+curved back cover that perfectly fits your palm, While OnePlus X is quite different from the OnePlus One and Two on appearance, it delivers a more square look. It is very pleasant that they both use 2.5D curved glass, bringing excellent touch experience and superior grip.

Just from the screen ppi, OnePlus X is more advantageous. Because with the same resolution, OnePlus X has a smaller screen which offers more clear display. However, as for Human eyes, their display effects are the same because it is said that Human eyes are not able to distinguish the pixel on higher than 300ppi screen. While on black trimming line control, Meizu Metal wins, this is the advantage Meizu smartphones always hold. Besides, OnePlus X uses Super AMOLED screen, also a highlight.

Both Meizu Metal and OnePlus X adopt metal frame. The loud speakers are at the bottom of the phones, won’t black the sound. The USB ports are the common ones. OnePlus X is equipped with a mode switch button that allows to enter/withdraw from Do Not Disturb mode. They both support dual SIM card and memory expansion up to 128GB, very convenient.

The standard version One Plus X we got has a glass back cover, Meizu Metal is metal material, as its name implied. Meizu Metal’s metal back cover is more excellent on anti-slip and fingerprints. Although they both have a 13MP rear camera, OnePlus X with higher price tag has a single LED Flash and Meizu Metal has dual LED Flash.

After tried Color OS and Cyanogen OS, OnePlus finally developed the H₂ OS. The H₂ OS based on Android 5.1 adopts the Material Design style put forward by Google. It’s creative on design language, structure and operation.

The H₂ OS window captures the color via algorithm, marking the second half of the desktop and wallpaper better fuse together. Unlike most OS, H₂ OS removed Dock bar and make Swipe down operation the Notification switch and Swipe up operation the shortcut switch. In addition, the system support button-customizable design, users can freely define the buttons to the left and right of the Home button.

The Flyme OS Meizu Metal runs is based on YunOS 3.1.6, replacing Android to YunOS from the bottom layer and adopting YunOS card elements, input method and other safety supports while preserving Flyme user interface. Comparing to Flyme 5.0, Flyme 5.1 is improved.

The new Flyme 5.1 brought many new functions, including the image recognition technology. Flyme 5.1’s new payment safety function can make payment-relevant Apps invisible, so the third-party App can’t monitor, making the trade safer. Flyme 5.1’s power managing function is also updated, clearly show the whole system’s power-usage.

The next is the camera shooting. They both have a 13.0MP rear camera with F/2.2 and PDAF. Since they have the same hardware specifications, the software is the key point to the image quality.

On the whole, the imaging quality of Meizu Metal and OnePlus X are quite excellent. In contrast, OnePlus X’s camera has more accurate white balance. Because they have much high ISO sensitivity on night shot, there are some noise on the pictures taken by both devices.

On performance, OnePlus X uses Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, same as OnePlus One. GPU is Adreno 330. While Meizu Metal is powered by Helio X10, 64bit Octa core cortex-A52 2.0GHz processor. GPU is PowerVR G6200.

Some people would doubt that the Snapdragon 810 made in 2014 is out of date on the OnePlus X that released a year later. But it is not the truth. From the benchmark scores we can see, Snapdragon 801’s scores are much closer to the Helio X10 on AnTuTu Benchmark latest version. On graphic processing, it is quite outstanding. Judging from its price tag, Snapdragon 810 is totally enough to cope with the needs in daily life.
