Pushing Yourself Bites Of The Apple

Hope that everyone is having fabulous night!

My day at work was pretty hectic but ended with a wonderful trip to the gym. I knew that I was going to run 2 miles, and I was signed up for 6:30pm spinning. At some point this afternoon, I decided that I wasn’t really in the mood for spinning, so I thought that I would do some other form of cardio.

I got to the gym and was heading to the locker room when I heard someone call my name from the spinning room – it was the instructor, who teaches both the 5:30pm and 6:30pm class on Tuesday. I used to go weekly, so she knows me. For some reason, I felt guilty for bailing on the class, so I looked down at my watch (6:10pm, crap!) and sprinted up the stairs to the treadmill. When I’m doing super short mileage, I like to push it, so having a nice little deadline definitely helped move things along.

I finished the 2 miles in 17:09 – not too bad for me! And I had about 5 minutes to spare to hustle back downstairs for the class. I took a seat up front and looked in the mirror – OMG! I was one sweaty mess. The instructor, also named Felicia, took one look at me and asked me what the heck I did upstairs. Yeah – it was that bad.

Anyhow, I was a little nervous about how I’d feel spinning after the run, but honestly, it felt great! I think it really helped that my legs were warmed up. I don’t know if anyone else feels like this, but sometimes I don’t push myself as hard as I could in spinning because I’m nervous about what’s coming next. I think that I need to conserve energy for that potential next sprint or hill climb, which is unfortunate because it can lead to me leaving the class knowing that I didn’t get everything out of it that I could.

Well not today! I kicked my butt and it felt awesome. It certainly didn’t help the sweating situation, but I felt really happy about my workout. I headed upstairs afterwards to find Megan, and since she had about 15 more min. on her run, I decided to stretch, do some push-ups and get in a quick ab workout. Perfect gym trip.
