Huawei P9 disassembly/repair guide, take apart Huawei P9

Huawei released its new flagship Huawei P9 in London world-widely this month. The company cooperated with Leica to make dual Leica camera on the P9, together with the price tag as high as iPhone, the device won a lot of expectation from many users. Today, we will show you how to take apart the Huawei P9 and also check what else the phone brought us, besides the dual Leica camera.

Tools needed:

Screw drive

Tweezers

Plug

Suction cup

Pick

Step 1: Remove the SIM Card tray

Get the card tray out with an E-ject pin.

Card tray design: SIM 1 is for Nano-SIM card, SIM 2/TF is for Nano-SIM card and TF-card

Step 2: Disassemble the back cover

Release the 2 Pentalobe screws at the bottom.

The screen component and the back cover are fastened by the screws and fasteners.

Firstly, use the suction cup to suck the front panel of the phone and open a rip. Using the plug to plug
in the rip and move it up and down. When the side is totally open, the back cover is free to go.

The metal back cover is fastened tight to the screen component. It can just open a very slim rip only with
the suction cup. It can separate them with the pick without damaging the appearance, but a little
difficult. Using the metal plug can make it easier but would damage the appearance.

The screen component and back cover

Huawei P9’s internal components are fastened to the back cover. Before totally separation, you need to
disconnect the Fingerprint ID module BTB. Huawei uses FPC 1025 Fingerprint ID module.

As the flagship device of Huawei P series, Huawei P9 has all the standard features of flagships, all metal
design and 2.5D glass. The biggest highlight is absolutely the dual-rear camera. With the first try of
dual camera on Huawei Honor 6 Plus, P9 seems more confident on such design.

At the launch, Huawei used almost half of the time to advertize its cooperation with Leica. Is the dual-
rear camera of Huawei P9 just a gimmic or a trend? This is up to the feedbacks of the market. Dual-rear
camera is more much diffcult than single one, technically speaking. And very few manucfacturers can apply it well.

Huawei P9’s internal design is very simple, the connectors between the components are quite simple. The
components are put on the screen frame, the whole teardown is pretty easy, except for the Fingerprint ID
module on the back cover. But this would make trouble for after-sales repair. For high-end devices, its is
more convenient to repair if the screen has an independent frame. Besides, P9’s internal design is not
that good-looking, the colors of its components are a little messy.

Advantages

Screw types: 2 in total and 12 pieces. 2 Pentalobe screws and 10 Philips screws.

Structure design: There are around 25PCS structure parts, quite easy to assemble and disassemble.

SIM Card tray: There is “T” design at the front of the tray, avoiding the SIM card tray damaging the
interal SIM/TF card.

Ambient light and Distance Sensor design: Ambient light and Distance Sensor are pasted on the small board on the front shell, connecting by the motherboatd contact spring, convenient for assembling and after- sales repair.

Disadvantages:

SIM Card tray: The 2 in 1 design of SIM card tray cap and card tray is not recommended, it may be convex
or hollow.

Battery: The battery is fastened by easy remove tape and double-sided adhesive tape, not convenient for
after-sales repair.

Internal design: The whole internal design is quite simple, but the colors of the internal components are
not unified.

Conclusion: Now, we can see the Huawei P9 is easy to take apart and repair, takes just 6 steps. This has a
lot to do with its simple internal structure that makes every compoment easy to remove. So, don’t worry,
if you Huawei P9 needs to be repaired.
