Apple’s Press Event, held yesterday, brought forth 8 major announcements that could prove to be game changers for the company. Now many of you might think that a company like Apple would not be worried about the competition, but with every smartphone manufacturer trying to get a share in the market, Apple needs to rethink and innovate as much as possible to stay ahead in the race.
Yesterday’s event was the second such gathering in the past 6 weeks, with the things being rather sombre than the launch event for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple Watch and Apple Pay. This is not how you would expect Apple to bring out new products and software. But it was interesting to see the way in which the products were showcased along with a cheeky hit on the competitors.
The major highlights from the event are as follows;
Say Hello to a Leaner iPad Air
iPad Air has just been introduced to the “Apple Approach” for making its offerings leaner and meaner. The reduction in thickness does not cut down on quality at all. The iPad Air has a thickness of 6.1mm which is 1mm less than the latest iPhone models.
The specs for this device are as follows:
Processor:Intel A8x Chip with a 2nd gen 64 bit architecture
Camera:8MP iSight rear camera (with a f/2.4 aperture and HD video recording support), front camera supports face time HD camera, burst selfie, slo-mo.
Screen:LCD layer with anti-reflective coating (capable of reducing reflection by 56%)
Variants:16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB
The performance of this device is commendable with the graphics capabilities matching up to the standards of console gaming. This is made possible by the fact that the graphics performance on this device is 180 times faster than its predecessors. So this is a must-have device for the avid gamer and also for those who simply love high performance on their devices.
3rd Generation of iPad Mini to Have Touch ID
Ever since Apple introduced its Touch ID feature, the entire consumer population has been eagerly waiting to see the devices that would have this amazing feature. This “one-touch-to-use-them-all” feature is an ingenious way to use a person’s fingerprint (the most unique identity for any individual) to unlock devices, initiate transactions and secure the privacy of the contents stored on the digital device.
The specs for this device are as follows:
Processor:Apple A7 64-bit processor and M7 motion coprocessor.

Apple Pay Goes Live This Monday (20th October)
With Apple Pay, you no longer have to carry cash or even your debit cards. You can simply bump your NFC enabled phone on the reader (available at over 220,000 stores) and the payment would be made electronically. Apple Pay is also integrated with the Touch ID feature on the latest devices so that you can pay for in-app purchases and purchases made through apps, with a swipe of your finger on the scanner. The feature goes live on Monday (20th October) and will be available only for the US.
iMacs to Have the World’s Highest Resolution Displays
Everybody has been eagerly waiting for the new iMac which has the highest display resolution in the world today, with the display being 27 inches and the resolution standing at 5210×2880 pixels resolution. Such high resolution is supported by a pixel density of 14.7 million pixels, which is 7 times more than the pixel density of an HD TV. It is interesting to note that this pixel density is 67% more than the pixels of a 4k resolution, so it is safe to say that the new iMacs have a 5k resolution quality.
This means you would get the richest and most vibrant colour rendition ever. The best part about the iMac display is that it has a thickness of only 5 mm at the edge. This makes the edge thinner than the latest rendition of the iPad Air.
The basic specs for the new iMac are:
Processor:3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor
Graphics Card:AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics card
Memory:8 GB RAM
Storage: 1 TB Fusion Drive
Despite the high resolution and large screen size, this device consumers 30% less energy which has been made possible due to the integration of the Oxide TF and a new low-power backlight.
Developers Can Work on Apple Watch Apps by November
While the Apple Smart Watch may not have a confirmed date yet (with the release being expected next year), the company is planning on releasing a WatchKit which would allow developers to create their own apps for the smart watch. This has been the outcome of the participation of some major brands who have already come up with apps for this innovative platform.
By distributing a development kit to the developers, Apple is also empowering them to learn the new “Swift” programming language that the company created to facilitate better app development for its devices. The App Store already has several apps that have been created in Swift by independent developers.
The 11th Major Release of OS X, Yosemite, is Available
The Mac OS X Yosemite is the eleventh version of the popular OS X series with the latest OS being part of the “continuity feature” that allows you to pick up work right where you left it. The best part about this feature is that you can continue your work from any device. For example, if you are writing a letter in the iPhone, then you can pick up your iMac or MacBook and you would be redirected to the document as you had left it in the iPhone. This makes Apple the first company to benefit from such features which is mainly due to the enormous hardware ecosystem that the company has manifested over the years. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for Free.
Apart from the immensely user friendly interface and convenient access options, Yosemite also gives you mirrored access across all Apple platforms for instant access. You can pursue your work on any Apple device with all of the work being synced in real time without the use of any third party apps or any cloud app.
iOS 8.1 Updates to Roll Out on 20th Oct
Apple has been analysing all of the feedback that it received for the iOS 8 and they have completely fixed the issues along with some new features being introduced in the latest iOS version. The notifications bar will give you better access to a lot of things that you didn’t expect from the operating system. Everything has been aligned to suit the convenience of users. You also get the Camera Roll and iCloud Photo Library in the beta version so that you can access your photos anywhere with iCloud without any distortions existing in the image. This feature also rolls out on Monday.
New Apple SIM to be Provided Along With iPad Air 2
Now this is something that came as a complete surprise. Beneath all of the marketing bling, there was an interesting information that the new iPad Air 2 tablets would come equipped with a pre-installed Apple SIM card which can be used for any subscriber. So now you have the independence to choose any mobile operator you want without having to wait for the model to be made available from the operator. How cool is that?
